The company has undertaken a wide range of fishery-based economic modelling studies and evaluations across the SADC region. Studies have included analyses for costs, earnings, pricing, employment and transformation levels for industrial, small-scale fisheries, shared stocks and processing establishments. In 2002, our consultants undertook an economic and sectoral analysis of the South African commercial fishing industry, and in response to the new post-apartheid political dispensation, the analysis was used by policy makers as a decision making tool to assist in the transformation of the industry. Amongst others, the analyses charcterised the status of the fisheries and fleets, employment and ownership levels, and the level of transformation within the industry. Consultants have also been involved in the development and transformation of fleets for shared stocks fisheries in the BCLME region. As an example, analyses have been used to inform policy makers on the most economically efficient ways in which to develop revenue raising instruments for the management of these stocks.
